The day after Thanksgiving, the four of us headed downtown to Bronson Park for the tree lighting ceremony. This is an awesome community event. When we first arrived, the whole park was dark except for the bandshell, where there were live Christmas carols. The park was full of people and friendly police officers on horseback--the horses were a big attraction. Then the mayor and city commissioner take turns reading "The Night Before Christmas," Santa and Mrs. Clause arrive, and then with a big countdown, all of the Christmas lights in the park are illuminated at once! It is so beautiful; kids and grown-ups alike are filled with wonder. It was so much fun! Well, it was tons of fun until the very end when the combination of excitement, bedtime proximity, and just him, Nathan had a total and complete meltdown and had to be carried kicking and screaming to the van. Ah, parenthood.
