It was just about the best New Year's Eve/New Year's Day celebration I could have imagined! On New Year's Eve, Gillian, Dylan and Oliver came over in the afternoon for a relaxed evening of watching the boys play, eating dinner, and actually staying up until midnight! Well, we put Nathan and Ollie to bed, but we grown-ups were pretty proud of ourselves for staying up to welcome 2011. It was wonderful to have them all to ourselves and really catch up. Oliver is still the laid back, super happy, super smiley, super chubby little guy that he was when we last saw him in October. He's getting so big! He started solid foods, and can scoot along the floor to get to a toy that he really wants. It was funny to see Oliver watching Nathan--he was fascinated by N's ability not only to walk, but to RUN to get where he wanted to go!
On New Year's Day, we all headed up to Lansing to spend time with the Appledorns. Oh, how I love them! Every time we get together, Miles and Nathan play together more and more. The last time we hung out with Miles, he was just getting the whole walking thing down, but now he's a pro. It was so fun to see him marching around! Oliver was delighted to discover another big bad toddler to observe, and it's clear that when he joins them in walking there's going to be much mischief afoot!
Isn't Oliver so cute?? I love that smile.
I introduced Ollie to his Aunt Jess' desire to take self portraits with everyone she loves.
The boys
Such a cutie!
Oliver was very impressed with Nathan's Jeep driving skills.

Nathan is clearly confused by someone other than himself getting to open a present.
Shortly after we arrived, I gave Nathan his little blue snack cup of goldfish as a snack. All of the sudden, in the midst of our conversations, we all realized that Miles was chasing Nathan around the house, and both boys were genuinely and self righteously upset. We quickly determined that Miles, who has an identical snack cup, was convinced that Nathan was eating goldfish that did not belong to him, and Nathan could not figure out why Miles was so fixated on a snack that clearly belonged to Nathan! This was an absolutely hilarious interaction, and I have to admit that all of us took a brief moment to laugh hysterically and snap some photos before resolving the situation!
"Hey! Those are MY goldfish, in MY snack cup!"
"Maybe if I hide behind Aunt Annalee, Miles won't take the goldfish that are MINE!"
Emergency averted! Two happy boys and the snack cups that caused all the confusion.
Hmmm... this is a pretty awesome toy box.
One little boy in the toy box...
