Night of Destruction!

Last night we introduced Nathan to one of our favorite end-of-summer events: The NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION at the Kalamazoo Speedway!  Going to the local Speedway is always a good time--the tickets are cheap, the atmosphere is completely casual, it's BYOB, and tons of fun--but the Night of Destruction is the epitome of a good time at the racetrack.  As you've probably inferred from the name, the goal of all the events of the evening is to crash and smash.  There is a contest to see how many times a driver can flip his car over, there are front-wheel drive cars with their rear wheels removed who are allowed to use only the emergency brake to control their speed, there are cars and trucks hauling campers and boats and trailers that are not fully secured, there are bus + trailer races... it all results in mayhem and crashing. Awesome!!

Those of you who read this blog, and who have spent more than 10 seconds with Nathan, know that he LOVES cars. It is definitely an obsession.  So we knew he'd be excited about a trip to the racetrack.  What we knew would completely blow his mind, however, was that fact that the stars of the Night of Destruction were Monster Trucks!!!!!!!!  He's seen monster truck videos online, and has a Matchbox monster truck, but he'd never seen a real one in person.  He couldn't believe his luck!!!!!  I maybe spent about thirty seconds watching the actual monster trucks; watching Nathan watch them was way more entertaining for me.  His eyes were as big as dinner plates the entire time, and he clapped enthusiastically after each of their airborne stunts.  SO cute!

Nathan catches his first glimpse of the monster trucks--he can hardly believe his eyes!

BIG grin!

The two stars of the show: Brutus and Little Miss Dangerous

Uncle Joey and Uncle Toby were there for the fun.

Jenn is also a longtime fan of Night of Destruction!

Checking out the action

YAY!!

By the time the fireworks started, Nathan was pretty fried.  He decided that they were a little scary, and stayed burrowed close to Daddy for safety.
