On the actual 4th of July, we took advantage of the atypically hot weather that day and headed to one of the lovely beaches in Northport to play in the sand and water, and enjoy the respite under the shade tree in the park adjacent to the shoreline.
Nathan remains completely enamored with playing in the sand and not quite as interested in the water. My parents went kayaking on the bay, and paddled over to visit us on their way to lunch at The Eat Spot. Todd has many childhood memories of playing on the beach right next to the cottage, but due to the drastic drop in Lake Michigan's water level, that beach has been separated from the lake by a large marshy area for the entire decade that I have been part of the Fowle family. Hopefully someday the water level will miraculously return to allow our kids some fun on the same beach Todd played on, but for now, the public beach is an excellent (if not quite as convenient) substitute.
Playing with my zoom lens--it's crazy how far away I was from the boys while taking this shot! It has that paparazzi kind of look to it.

Back at the cottage, Nathan had to show Grandpa Great where the engine is in the toy car!
